A “Sick Day” in November in Phoenix November 18, 2008
I got a call to come get Anders from the school nurse’s office (he had a soar throat and was pale) today so I took the majority of the day off and by the time I got there he was just fine…no sign of sickness at all. He knows how to work the system already! So this afternoon has been really laid back and the boys played outside in the sandbox and with water from the hose. Just thought I’d share these pics with you all. I think this is my favorite time of year in Phoenix…it’s in the mid 80s today, can’t say I miss Washington or Chicago weather on days like today.
Living Without… November 2, 2008
For the last month or so we have been living without CABLE! I have to say, there is not much I miss about TV. Especially now at the height of the election season, it is so nice to not see irritating ads for the candidates. I no longer see annoying commercials, no longer watch lame-o shows that we used to watch just because nothing else was on…no more Spongebob, Dora, Diego, and the like…it’s awesome. And the boys have not complained once. It’s great.
What we really want to watch we watch online whenever we get around to it. If there is any drawback, it is the lack of sports. It’s definitely hard to be a Suns fan, or Blazers fan, when we can’t watch many games. We may pay for the video streaming online which is way cheaper than watching it on TV anyway. So there, who needs it?!
Michael’s Big Day November 2, 2008
All Saints Day, AKA Michael’s birthday was yesterday, so we did presents and cake and went to the Olive Garden. Michael’s team, the Blazers, played my team, The Suns last night so we donned our opposing team t-shirts but I don’t think the Olive Garden clientele picked up on it. (The Suns won) At any rate, a good time was had by all and today Michael is enjoying his new NBA Live Game.
Halloween Humbug November 2, 2008
The older I get the more kurmudginey I get. I really don’t like Halloween. People get dressed up as something they are not and beg for candy. Oh well, it’s for the kids. The boys have had their costumes for a while so putting on the costume was not so exciting but they had fun at the church party. Our ward has an annual chili and salsa cook off so there was good food, and this was the first year that I have felt ok not watching the boys every second of the evening. They are holding their own these days. This was the 3rd year in a row that we have gone to this particular halloween party, I have to say the stability is nice.
End of the Volleyball Season November 2, 2008
We ended our volleyball season with our awards banquet this week. It was a great night. I gave out awards and loaded the parents with praise for raising such awesome young men…I got a little choked up but I saw my boys laughing at me so that put an end to it pretty quickly.
At the end the team presented me with a volleyball that they all signed. They are the best kids ever. I was pretty impressed that 13 and 14 year old boys would go to the effort for such a sweet gift. This was my first year coaching and I hope I can continue to do this for many years.

My Awesome Volleyball Team October 14, 2008
I have had the privilege of coaching the 8th grade boys volleyball team this year and it has been a ton of fun. Our win-loss record does not show our success but these guys are great! They have improved immensely from the beginning of the season. I am a broken record at school because I talk about how awesome they ALL are and brag that I get to be a part of this program! I mean, LOOK at these guys!
The cream of the crop…I’m really proud of them.
Videos of the Boys Singing September 17, 2008
It’s been a while since I posted anything new. We are six weeks into the school year, so here are some links to videos of Anders singing some songs about colors that he learned at school and of Luke singing “Follow the Prophet.” And there is one of the boys playing in the living room.

Anders also “performed” in the primary program this sunday and did a great job-he didn’t need to be reminded what his line was at all!
The Big Day Finally Arrives August 12, 2008
Anders has been counting down the days to kindergarten for two weeks. He was tired when I got him up at 6:45 on Monday, but was still excited and ready to get on the bus for school. (As we speak he has his backpack on, lunch packed, shoes on, and is ready to go get on the bus again, but it is 6:15 in the evening.) He seems to like his teacher and a couple of new friends he has made. I was pretty ticked though when there was no note sent home on the first day (or the second) so I didn’t know her name until today when she called (after I sent a note…I was as nice as can be in the note). I don’t know, maybe I’m an annoying, pushy parent, but come on, this is special needs kindergarten, shouldn’t they send a letter home on the first day? The most important thing is that he is having a good time and can’t seem to get enough of kindergarten.
